Lolland is a rural municipality in southern Denmark which is developing rapidly, not least because of the construction of the Fehmarnbelt tunnel to Germany. The island attracts many internationals who appreciate nature, tranquility, and the opportunity to buy a house at a very reasonable price.

Your work will take place in a care center, or as home care in private homes. In either case you will be working on the principle of 'helping people to help themselves', because being as self-reliant as possible increases the quality of life of the citizens. Salary and terms of employment

Working hours are on average 37 hours per week. You will work rotating shifts. Salaries are regulated by the Danish collective agreements. As a skilled carer your start net salary will range from approx. EUR 2,335 per month to approx. EUR 2,522 per month, plus pension and paid vacation.

You will move to Lolland and start working with us from 1st of September 2025, and you will receive your first salary by the end of September.

Professional requirements

Ideally, Lolland Municipality is looking for people who can obtain a Danish authorization as a Social- og Sundhedsassistent (“Social- and Healthcare Assistant”). However, the content of training programmes varies greatly between European countries, and we know that the Danish training programme is different from that of many other countries. Therefore, we recommend that you submit relevant documentation to the Danish authorities who can clarify whether or not you can obtain authorization (for details please read the appendix).

If you cannot yet obtain authorization, we expect you to be interested in developing your competences and - over time – complete the training programme as a “Social- and Sundhedsassistent” which is free of charge and will take place during paid working hours.

We welcome applications from skilled workers with at least 1 ½ years relevant vocational training, including knowledge about anatomy, hygiene, infection prevention, nutrition, and health promotion. It could be profiles such as “Técnico en Cuidados Auxiliares de Enfermería” (Spain), “Assistente Sanitario” (Italy), “Slaugytojo Padejojo” (Lithuania), “Opiekun Medyczny” (Poland), “Altenpfleger(in) and Pflegefachfrau/Pflegefachmann” (Germany), “Voorbereidend Beroepsonderwijs, Verzorging and ”Verzorgende individuele gezondheidszorg” (Netherlands), ”Māsas palīgs” (Latvia), “Ošetřovatel/Sanitář” (Czech Republic), Pracktická sestra – asistent/Sanitár (Slavakia), Assistant Nurse (Greece).

You must also have practical experience in caring for elderly people.

Please note that at the moment we are not hiring nurses.

Other requirements and expectations

  • You must be willing and able to learn Danish. After two years in Denmark, you are expected to be able to complete the official Danish language course for foreigners.
  • You have a good command of English (approx. level B1 is needed)
  • You want to settle in Lolland, and you are able to cope with the challenges of relocating and starting up a new job at the same time.
  • You have a valid driving license (category B) and are comfortable riding a bicycle.
  • You must be a citizen of an EU/EEA country, Switzerland, or a Nordic country, or hold another valid work and residence permit for Denmark.

Language course, accommodation – maybe together with your partner?

Lolland Municipality offers a free, mandatory language course before and after your arrival as well as an extensive onboarding programme. You will be part of a team of international newcomers learning Danish at a local language school.
We also offer information and assistance to ease your relocation, for example by facilitating the initial registrations and helping you to find accommodation.

If you have a partner and/or children, relocation requires careful consideration, and we are committed to making the move a success for everyone. Public schools for children and youngsters are free of cost. Depending on language skills, profession, and flexibility your partner will have fair opportunities for finding a job in Lolland or within commuting distance.
